It is my hope that this tool will be useful to you, whether you are a member of our school community, or just exploring information about us.  School Union #133 serves the Towns of Windsor, Palermo and Somerville.  We have a total enrollment of approximately 500 students in Grades Kindergarten through Eight.  Our high school students have “school choice,” as we do not operate a secondary school within the Union.  Most of our students attend Erskine Academy in South China, which is an outstanding private secondary school.  Erskine is among the safest, and most progressive high schools in Maine, and the school offers a wide range of athletic and co-curricular activities.  Erskine sends many of its graduates to some of the top colleges in the country.  The school remains current with state expectations for quality comprehensive curriculum and assessment programs, based on the Maine Learning Results (MLR) and the Comprehensive Local Assessment System (CLAS).  Erskine does offer bus transportation for a small weekly fee.  Union #133 does not provide transportation to secondary schools.  Other high schools attended by our students include, but are not limited to:  Belfast, Cony (Augusta), Hall Dale (Hallowell), Gardiner, Winslow, Waterville, Lincoln Academy (Damariscotta), Mt. View (Thorndike), Medomak Valley (Waldoboro), Lewiston and Camden.

In the fall of 2005, we put the finishing touches on a seven million dollar renovation project to the Windsor School.  This beautiful, “state of the art” public elementary school is truly a sight to behold!  It serves just over 300 students, and features a fine array of programs designed to meet the needs of our students.  All facilities in Union #133 offer the “Maine Learning Technology” (MLTI “Laptop”) program in grades Seven and Eight, and our educational staffs are working hard to improve the integration of technology into all aspects of the school program.

Union #133 in now using “PowerSchool.”  This is a student information system (SIS) that will allow us to build in a wide range of reports, including automated report cards, progress reports and eventually a “parent/guardian portal” which will feature “real-time” information on student performance and attendance.  This will be coming soon!  Our interest is to serve you, the public, with the best tools possible as we all collectively seek to offer a high quality program for the children.

I am absolutely thrilled to be here, working with the wonderful people of Union 133.  I enjoy going to work each and every day.  It is a challenge, but one that I relish enthusiastically.  Collectively, our Administration and Staff, along with the communities that comprise our school union, are working to make our union one of “the best little school systems” in the nation!  I look forward to working with you on behalf of the children.  Please do not hesitate to contact me to see how you can become involved in what we do!

Respectfully,

Gregory G. Potter
